Trooper overcome by fumes Is this another attack or did the driver just have incredibly bad BO

Obviously, more information needs to be provided. Too many unanswered questions here.

Are the "suspects" still being pursued?

What does "decontamination" mean, if they don't know what the fumes were?

That's just a start.

It's gotta be carbon monoxide. Make a traffic stop on a freeway choked with vehicles belching toxic gas into the atmosphere, and it's very possible that you gould suck too much in and get disoriented.

The real question this incident raises is whether or not it would even be news at all if the occupants of the car in question were not "of Middle Eastern descent."

My guess is "no," and that really bums me out.

As a general rule, if you have to ask "is this another attack?" it probably isn't. Terrorists are generally not known for their subtlety.

And don't rule out BO, either.

A friend of mine used to be a highway patrolman, and he once told me of a stop he made on a motor home that exuded a stench you could smell "half a mile behind that rolling shithouse". It turned out that the motor home was being used as a traveling bordello, and the women inside were -- putting it mildly -- hygienically challenged. The incredible stink came not just from the people inside but also from a broken chemical toilet.

The motor home was actually tagged as a biohazard and had to be burned before it was hauled away to the dump.

True story.
