Did an expensive Melbourne private school give Australia the word bogan?

I was introduced to this term by an Australian friend after showing him The Chat's video, Smoko.

"Those fekkin Bogans."

The thing I really like about this is that it references things that were current at the time it was written, like the guy who egged Fraser Anning and Bill Shorten being leader of the ALP, which make it seem almost as nostalgic as the 80s.

Almost certainly.

In my 80s, 'bogan' had implications of a battle-jacket with a metal-band back-patch on it. Since then it seems to have simply become the funny way for richer people to deride poorer people (see "CUB" - "Oh dear: that plumber, who probably has a silly name like "Huntter" or something, is now taking home more than our dear Tarquin does as a Marketing Manager!")
