Mary Ellen Mark has a book with fantastic photos from there, one of which was going to be the cover of my wife's novel Twins, but it didn't work out that way....

Damn, I wish this was a double post.

Yea, this could be a double, BUT WE WON'T KNOW WITHOUT A LINK TO THE ORIGINAL.

In any case, this is fascinating and cool. I love twins and posts about them! Very cool links in the resulting thread too! Awesome!

Ha-ha. As a twin of the identical stripe, I have a kidney on reserve if I ever need to donate a perfect match. Or half of a liver.

But I will say that personalities are not genetically determined. My brother is not as smart or funny as I am.

My Mother is a past president of the Mothers of Twins. Those were some picnics.

Ha! Fun. I have friends who are identical twins. For their birthday a few years back, they got matching "Thing 1" and "Thing 2" tattoos.

It becomes a lot less interesting when you grow up one town over from the festival and go with your friends every year. But when I was 15, I thought it was pretty "ironic" to wear my "Grandmother of Quintuplets" pin I bought from a booth at the festival.

Two old friends of mine won the "Most Dissimilar Twin" award when we were in high school and they deserved it. Not only were they physically extremely different, but they had wildly different personalities. I briefly dated one (the hot one, natch) and had little fantasies about bedding both, as some perverse twist on the identical twins fantasy some guys have.

One of the weirdest things that ever happened to me was walking up out of the subway and wandering into a tryout to be the next Doublemint spokestwins. I felt so incomplete all of a sudden, like I was missing an arm or something. It was suddenly perfectly normal for there to be two of each person, and I felt like a freak for being alone.

I'm a fraternal twin. We thought it'd be cool to go as kids, but I had forgotten about it. Now we figure we'll have to go someday, but only when we have a chance to rock either the most alike or unalike contest (even as fraternals, we look rather similar).
