"I am Darth Vader, an Extraterrestrial from the Planet Vulcan!" - The 80's attack in an amazingly detailed and frenetic video for The Death Set's "They Come to Get Us." [SLYT]

Somewhere the Beastie Boys are saying "ya might wanna tone it down just a tad."

Enjoyed the Godzilla, and the Wilhelm Scream from Balrog getting hit with a Haduken.

Not to thread-sit too much, but the band seems devoted to taking Beasties style rhymes and flows and cranking it with thrash-punk beats. The video completely captures this aesthetic. Of course, we're in a weird new territory where 80's nostalgia allows the Beasties and thrash-punk to share the same track... god, I love living in the future sometimes.

the Beasties and thrash-punk to share the same track

Not terribly different from the Beastie's own origins.

Dirty pool! It's like pointing out that Ministry's first breakout hit was "Everyday is Halloween" (The best part are the fake brit accents.)

I wondered what happened to Wee Jimmy Krankie.

This is what the kids in Rhody are into now?

The intro graphic says, "They come for us," not "They Come to Get Us."

Is the presentation so uber-hip that the video has a different title from that of the featured song on purpose? Or did they really cram all those animation overlays into the piece and yet not bother to get the title of the song right?

I'm giving a concerted effort to like it...

I thought it was great, except for the guy incomprehensibly shrieking in the middle of everything. And then I felt sad, because I remembered when only one pop culture reference was enough for a youtube video...

I think this video articulates all the musical "core" sub genres the boss was referencing in his keynote address at SXSW.

That was fun to watch. Less fun to listen.

I'm going to be the dissenter:
I can't dismiss this outright, the hook is just too good. It's like Dubstep meets Trent Reznor, meets pretentious indie rock; I hate the fact that I think it's pretty good.

When the Beasties did it they called it 'Paul's Boutique' and even Chuck D liked it.
Who's the new Chuck D and what does she say?

Best summed up with an eighties catch phrase: nice video, shame about the song.

Good find. Now that I've listened to most of "Michel Poiccard" tt feels like this is the punk rock of the now.

I liked it. You people. You seem like the kind of people who think "fun" is sipping Earl Gray while wrapped in a big sweater with cat pasterns and listening to violins and harpsichords on NPR.

er pasterns. Cat patterns not pasterns.

Welll, not earl grey.

And who listens to NPR when there's Radio 4?

Could you kids keep it down? The Splendid Table is on.

Huh, The surviving members were originally AUS folk. I think that may explain a lot, but I'm not sure *what* it explains.

The "Extended Death Set Club Version" of this song is pretty good.

*cough* Second breakout hit

a big sweater with cat pasterns

Don't correct this. I prefer it. It is much more unsettling than any of the juxtapositions in the video. Dadalicious.
