Horses roll about in the dirt for dust baths, I guess to scratch an itch or celebrate spring, so what's so weird about a horse rolling in unfamiliar snow and having a ball? It's not just dogs and (some) cats who find it fun to play in.
This vet says that horses just roll like that.

He does get a bemused look from one of his friends. I am not surprised. I love rolling in fluffy snow and I am almost as big as a horse. Maybe he is just making horse snow angels...

Yeah, horses love to roll. My horse loves it when he gets new shavings in his stall; he goes right down and rolls around in them and then takes a nap.
Stetson was definitely enjoying himself.

Stetson would enjoy himself a great deal more if they'd take the blasted blanket off.
Owners keep blankets on all the time because it makes them feel better, not for the sake of the horse. I love the lady with the boarding stable down the road--she insists that her stalled, shaved, and pampered clients' horses get out sans blankets for a couple hours several times a week year round without blankets to roll around and get dirty. Just bein' a horse. The result is happy horses that don't eat her barn down or have stall vices. My horses get blankets very rarely--mostly the old boy, when it's howling, wet, and/or below freezing, and he's insisting on standing outside of his shed.
We don't get snow that deep, but if you want entertainment, just watch Swish the Fox Trotter and Brodie the mule doing their synchronized swim performance in mud. They roll over and over and over, lie on their sides and rub mud onto their faces and into their ears, then lay on their backs and wave their legs in the air while they grind the mud as deep into their hides as they can. Of course they picked the wettest, muckiest, nastiest spot to waller around in, so when they sit up (horses rise front end first) they can wiggle their butts and make sure their tails are completely saturated. The best part is when they casually stroll over and slap their pasture buddies with a mucky tail.

Horses call those 'Pegasus'.
We've been fed a lot of *hem hem* lovely ideas about the Noble Horse, the Brave and Wise and Surefooted creature, when in reality every horse is 60-80% pure doofus.

It has realness, pep, and even a bit of glamour, but it lacks the uncanniness and discrection one would expect from a Horse Master. And you are no Horse Master.

My horse would totally do this. He would love it. My dad's horse would also love this. Both of them would love to roll in the water at the beach, too, but that is not allowed when they are carrying a passenger (much to their dismay).
