Boom Selection is a music blog, focused on bootlegs. Not old Grateful Dead concerts, but DIY remixes and combinations, with tracks that pit Eminem against Britney, or Grandmaster Flash against Boards of Canada. Crazy stuff. bsx is a helpful filter that whittles it all down to must-listen boots and mixes.

I don't know if hard trance/hard house music would be of particular interest here. But I have been listening to a streaming media feed from digitally imported of amazing quality. I highly reccomend, especially for those needing a boost.

Argh. Someone mentioned it but didn't link or provide a url. Still, there was a whole thread about it which I missed, which makes that "Not old Grateful Dead concerts..." just seem obnoxiously condescending now.

I've been digging this stuff for a while, but I can't find any web streaming stations playing it. Apparently XFM.co.uk does a show on the weekends, but I would love to have booty playin' whilst I work. Any one have leads?

listening to the britney/christina remix makes me realize just how interchangable they are...

Forgive the newbie question, but if you're going to "remix" something doesn't that require that you somehow have access to the original un-mixed, un-EQ'ed, un-FX'ed 24-track or 32-track version? Are we talking about stuff you can do to commit mayhem on the final as-released recording with Cool Edit and a collection of sample CD's? Links to any pages giving the lowdown here would be appreciated!

I'm sure that there is more to it, but you can do a lot by phase cancelling the right and left tracks in several ways and doing further cancelling with the result. With most pop/rap records the only thing that is in the exact center of a mix are the vocals, the bass and the kick drum. So you isolate the 'center' channel in teh stereo spread and eq the bottom off. That'll get you teh vox, and you can find intrumental breaks that can be sampled on almost any record....

Yes. Some aren't even that high-tech, just two turntables spinning in unison. For example, that awesome, awesome Grandmaster Flash vs. Boards of Canada mix.

Not old Grateful Dead concerts

Hey, I'm still trying to get my hands on Sugaree from the show in the Shrine Auditorium, October 15, 1976. . . .arguably the most trancendent moment of my life. . .

jfuller: often times these bootlegs are just an acapella layed on top of another track in ACID (or another similar program). Occasionally though, artists will offer up their original unmixed tracks on AcidPlanet for aspiring remiers to work with.

As a side note, anyone interrested in some hard house bootlegs check out the Friday Night Posse. Most of their material is top notch.

For your listening pleasure: Radio Cartel. They have some tasty wee mixes on there that I haven't been able to find anywhere else.
