go sox

Hey, no crying in baseball! Who would you like the Red Sox to win it for? A Sox fanboard thread dedicates the hoped-for, possibly imminent World Series championship to loved ones living and dead. NSFW, if your employer frowns on tears streaming down your cheeks.

SoSH is probably most famous for the Schilling incident.

Well, that and an abundance of trolls.

Speaking of: the Astros, cumulatively and in comparison, has more cute guys than any other team, therefore should have been up against the BoTSox.

Plus, would have been more fitting for Clemens to end his career.

Hmph. Baseball. Hmph.

Currently on the last page of that thread. By the time you get there, it's a well needed laugh:
Win It For my 4 year old son Tim, who once a day turns his Sox cap around, slips on a glove, and rams it into the face of one of his stuffed animals while saying "I'm Jason Vawitek!"

Please do not speak of a Red Sox World Series win until after they have won four games and the team is all safely frozen in carbonite.

DO IT FOR NOMAAAAH.

Speaking of whom, I read somewheres that all the players agreed to give a portion of the World Series bonus (should they win it) to Nomah.

Little sulking choking-in-the-playoffs bastard that he is.

Aw I love Nomah.

NOMAAAH.

Nomar gets a full player's share. As it should be. As for the bs playoff choking suggestion, he's not the same since he got hit by Al Reyes (who now pitches for St. Louis); he never will be. Up until last year, he held the major league record for post-season OPS, though it looks like 2003 knocked him out of the Top 10.

It ain't over yet, they haven't won it yet. This is a very, very dangerous chicken counting exercise. Don't you all know how fragile this lead really is?

Let them win it and then let's figure out who to dedicate it too. I'm just hoping that Pedro spends some money to get that ridiculous jherri curl chopped off.

Nomar shouldn't get a penny, he was holding the team back with his attitude. I think its cool that his team mates want to give him a little something but he doesn't get a ring (should the Sox hold on and win it tonight).

WolfDaddy, the fitting end to Clemens' career is for him to get drilled in the temple and never play again.

I remember that guy. I wonder what's become of him.

fenriq, i'm totally with you, but this was all about "go sox, win it for _________" so I do not believe it will bring down the hammer of the gods.

led zep?

Everybody just shut up. Shut up and stop jinxing the Sox. If tonight is not 'the night' I will have to go out and get blitzed again tomorrow night, and that's just not acceptable. Do you have any idea what my beer-and-nachos bill for the past two weeks is like?

Go Sox!

I read it when they first started posting last week and I admit, I got a little sniffly. But by far the best one is from the very first post:

Win it for Ted, who once said, "If they ever won it, I would feel so @#%$ warm inside."

I laughed so hard at that one, a person the other side of the building called to make sure I was alright.

27 outs to go...

i don't understand winning it for dead people. they're fucking dead. i guess you want them to win it for you, so you feel better about them being dead.

win it for Bill Buckner, fer god's sake.

go Cards! how amazing would two 0-3 comebacks in the same postseason be?

i don't understand winning it for dead people. they're fucking dead.

Do me a favor: call up Fox and ESPN and explain that.
posted by yerfatma at 1:49 PM on October 27, 2004

MrGrimm, the first 3-0 comeback was all we needed. Now we just need another 27 outs and the curse is gone.

And damn straight win it for Buckner!

uncleozzy, it just started raining frogs here, is that a good or bad sign?

And stupidsexyFlanders, isn't the correct fill in for that blank, Let's Win it for Johnny? or was that just a stupid movie that I can't even remember anymore? Shame the Gipper's dead, they could win it for him.

I say, win it for Boston and everyone BUT the Yankees!

How about winning it for that girl that their jerkoff fans got killed?

That was the Red Sox, right? They all sort of run together to me...

One of the best things about SoSH is Jose Melendez's KEYS TO THE GAME, which originated in (and are still cross-posted to) the daily game threads.
posted by tingley at 3:30 PM on October 27, 2004

majcher, the "jerkoff" fans didn't get her killed, the cop using a less-than-lethal weapon killed her. But that was a lovely snark anyway.
posted by fenriq at 3:58 PM on October 27, 2004

majcher, would you be refering to Victoria Snelgrove, the 21 year old fan, who was killed when a police officer overreacted to a single thrown bottle from a boisterous crowd and fired a pepper spray canister into her face? The one where the police took full responsibility for the death?

Just checking.

Dammit, the more SoxFilter I see, the more my poor rabbits get subjected to The Hat!

Please win tonight, Red Sox. The bunnies can't take much more of this!

Some people wear special socks on gameday to give the Sox luck. I post pictures of my rabbits in Metafilter. Don't mock me!

Relax, he's from Texas. Don't shatter his vision of Boston as a center of Sin, Greed, Corruption, Death and Dismemberment. It would have been NY, but they lost the ACLS, and, you know, after 9/11 you have to love firefighters and New Yorkers.

It was indeed awesome, madam jjj, eight straight wins against supposedly the two best teams in baseball. My 11-year-old son, unaffected by sports his entire life, hung out with two baseball-crazy summer kids in mid-July and suddenly (before I could call for one of those cult interventionists) became a Red Sox fan. He's had to wait three-and-a-half whole months to see this day! (Which is a long time, if you're 11 years old.)

Relax, he's from Texas.

Close - I'm currently living in Austin, but I'm from New York (and then San Francisco), and I've got family in Boston, but please, go on.

Don't like cops, don't like rioting dickwads, don't like that a girl got killed for no reason.
posted by majcher at 3:13 AM on October 28, 2004

Sorry, majcher. But as you're aware, the "riots" amounted to a bunch of drunk revellers on the streets (prone to happen when Boston wins anything), and the police's overreaction cost an innoncent girl her life. My apologies for the snark.
