OMG all of the cats with their silly faces and open mouths. I can never get my cats to stay still with that expression.

My photos are 78% my cats, 20% other people's cats and children, 2% proof that I eat meals (I send those to my parents).

Also, my vet disapproves of the practice of naming cats after food items (they mentioned it in the context of our cats having old-fashioned people names). I hadn't really thought about it, but it does seem like a trend?

Oops. I meant to link this Instagram account which actually features all the cats in the painting and not the cats in real life www.instagram.com/rebeccasalinasart/

Oh yeah, the IG should have featured. I just happened to come across the video on reddit and loved the cats and the painting so much!

Two Atlases and two Milos as well, if I caught that right.

Re. naming cats after food, IRC there was one in a Carry On film called 'cooking fat', which at least has the ring of frequent [slang] use about it

The music is from The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker, if you were wondering.

Depending upon where you come from: "Milo" is also a food.

Ah, my grandparents grew Milo (sorghum).

Back on topic: I like cats.

My cats are named Gravyboat and Lady Sage (cat tax: their instagram account). Those were their shelter names and I kept them. The staff at our vet clinic are always chuckling about Gravy's name.

Well, gravyboat isn’t a food item; it’s a gravy container, which is an aspirational role for every cat I’ve met.

wicked_sassy, do your cats also love avocado!?!? My cats come galloping into the kitchen if they hear me cut open an avocado. I don't know how they can even hear that sound if they are in the other room. They also misidentify other uses of that knife (potato??? come on guys).

Excellent! I, too, love the open mouth expression, so cat!
I hope the artist realizes this is the most perfect wrapping paper ever, and of course fabric repeats.

I have a cat named Potato. We actually have a very strict cat naming protocol in our family: cats must be named after a food that begins with the letter P. Growing up we had Pumpkin and Pepper and Peanut. I have Potato. My sister has Pizza and Pickle. My kids have planned multiple names for potential future cats (the current leader is Pepino).

Decades ago when I adopted two cats from the shelter at the same time, I named them Bean (black kitten) and Toast (medium hair tortie). Five years ago I adopted another pair of kittens (siblings), and I named them Zipper (floofy tabby) and Button (floofy calico).

I love this painting and all the cat names.

I wonder how the Mr Potroast from the video fit into that?

Harrumph. I disapprove of your vet's disapproval of how people name their pets. (This may be colored by my disapproval of a certain family member's strong disapproval of giving pets "human" names because they see it as somehow disrespectful of any humans who share the name... which, uh?)

Also colored by my happy memories of Olive, a small black cat whom I adopted from the shelter about a week after I'd bought a HUGE jar of Kalamata olives from Costco, which turned out to be far more olives than I was able to consume.

When we met, my now-husband was not a cat person. The day I came home to find him flying a happily excited Olive around the kitchen in a Supercat pose ("because there's a fly she can't reach, so I'm helping") was a good one.

@spamandkimchi: Yes! Lady Sage is an avocado fiend and, like yours, will run into the kitchen when she hears me scooping out avocado from the skin. It's very cute. Sometimes she filches them from the counter and rips them open in the middle of the night, which is hilarious but less cute. She also insists on tasting all of my food, despite me being vegan; this week, she has attempted to steal injera from Ethiopian food, tortilla chips, and shredded kale.

Gravyboat likes to steal one green bean when I'm cooking those but otherwise is pretty uninterested in human foods.

So many good kitties and fun names on this thread!

I also have a cat named Potato. I didn't realize it was such a popular feline name.

Then again, I once met Jaron Lanier and he told me that his cat is named Potato, too. So there's that.

That cats love cantaloupe was a given but that they feel the same about avocado is new to me.
