The video (50mb .mov) for Sigur Rós' new single Gobbledigook was shot by Arni&Kinski, inspired by (and in collaboration with) Ryan McGinley (previously), discussed photographer, chronicler of stars, commercial short film (60mb .mpg) director, and (apparently) Jonsi's former paramour. Sigur Rós, whose lyrics are often in an invented language, have a new single called "Gobbledigook?" That's genuinely hilarious, and shows a sly sense of humor I didn't associate with those guys.

Yesssss. Since listening to Ágætis byrjun back in the day, I knew they had that pop magic with song like Ny Batteri. Then came the snooze-fest (), followed up by Takk, where I think they hit their stride. If this is any indication, they've evolved their sound further. Can't wait.

And Ginastera, just as a guess. It's a real change in their sound, definitely, which is not something I expected, as I had previously pegged them as one of those rare kinds of artists who find one thing to do and then do it perfectly...

I like Sigur Ros...it sounds like someone set their metronome on double speed on this one. It's OK...may take a couple of listens.

liquorice: I'd strongly recommend you see them live.
(Having said that, I'll probably not do so myself. I've seen them twice already, and although the concerts were excellent, I think there's a diminishing rate of return on seeing the same band over & over again, especially with tickets for international acts costing $80 or more these days. Better to catch three or four touring local acts for that money)

sigor ros and bjork - what else does iceland have in terms of music? i think these guys are partially flying on the iceland track.

figTree - múm are quite wonderful (fansite, wiki). Finally We are No One is one of my favourite albums ever.
Sigur Ross sidekicks Amina are also nice (a quartet of girls on violins, glockenspiels etc; they normally play live with SR to flesh out the latter's sound, which is otherwise reliant on lots of studio work & production on the albums)
I think Stafraenn Hakon is also from Iceland - lots of atmospheric, overlayed guitar soundscapey stuff - also on a SR style cinematic postrock tip.
I'd personally rate Bjork as the least of the Icelandic acts that I know of, which is saying something.

Actually (if I'm remembering right), the majority of their songs are in Icelandic. I believe most of the lyrics on () were in the nonsensical Hopelandic, but most of their albums just have a few tracks like that. Not that I had any clue of that myself before I read about it recently, though. All that said, I smirked when I saw the song title myself.
I absolutely love Sigur Ros, but... I don't know about this. I appreciate them trying something outside of their comfort zone, but this just doesn't captivate me nearly as much as I want it to. However, they've been one of the most uniformly wonderful bands that I've ever come across, so I'm sure that there will be plenty of songs on their upcoming album that I will enjoy. I wonder how much of an influence that the producer (Flood) has had on them.

Not impressed by the video, of course I'm not impressed by SR either. Also not impressed by Ryan McGinley's photos, big whoop-de-do with that. I don't see any emotional context to his work. Really, looking at his stuff I see nothing but indie-bullshit. Nice NY indie bullshit.
