A showreel, or demo reel, is the portfolio of a film or video artist. There are many awesome, even stunning, examples on the net, but the most popular showreel at the moment is Martin Gamal's VFX SR. (via)

This is what defenders of "Birdemic: Shock and Terror" hold up when asked to explain their "Eh, I've seen worse" statements.

Wait--is this a joke showreel or a sadly earnest showreel? I don't know what to make of anything anymore.

most popular showreel at the moment
Has more dislikes than likes. That's pretty notable for a YT.

Of course people don't like this reel -- it's way too long. If you can't draw me in with an action-packed 60-90 seconds of South Park-style animation, you're doing it wrong.

I hope that all of our early efforts at complicated things, however trite and tacky, get similar exposure and derision. That would definitely make the world a better place.

I hate to be That Guy, but MetaFilter isn't a place for LOL UTOOBS, especially when they come at the expense of someone. Maybe with broader context this could be a good post, but it strikes me as mean spirited and pointless at the moment

Is there a name for the seeking of entertainment through feeling superior to someone else? The desire for that smug feeling that says "I may suck, but at least I am not attempting anything, and that guy tried and failed so he's worse".
I would accept a loan word from the German if there is not a native English term.

This pathetic showreel has been spread around just because it was SO. DAMN. AWFUL.
I had hoped we could be better than that.
