Every FPP, I manage some sort of horrible (but informative!) redundancy. The article makes up for it, I hope.

I never really quite understood the excitement for something that for me seems so arbitrary and uneventful, but I find it interesting that the ball is now kind of evolving into something of a showcase for emerging lighting technologies. Maybe future versions will be entirely powered by ultra-efficient solar cells that can hold a day's charge well into the night while delivering ample wattage.
