Australian racism reaches an all time low. An Australian opposition MP from Queensland, who is the spokesperson for Citizenship, today stated in an interview that, "Without trying to be offensive, we are talking about hygiene and what is an acceptable norm in this country when you are working closely with other co-workers", said Therese Gambaro.

This post was deleted for the following reason: This is a crappy thing that someone said that is racist, but I'm not sure what there is to have a post about besides "wow, that sucks" -- jessamyn

I have this ongoing theory that Australian racism is very much generational. Without even looking at Ms. Gambaro's Wikipedia profile, I am going to bet any amount of money that she is older than fifty.

Damn, I shoulda waited for someone to take me up on that bet.

in other news.

And I hardly think that an ill considered comment from a conservative MP equals an all time low. Maybe one of the many massacres of Aboriginal or Chinese people might be considered a lower low point.

get a fucking grip.

Well, to be fair, have you ever tried to queue in many parts of Asia? It's more a swarm or a clump than a line, although globalization is making queuing up more standardized.

Well, to be fair, most European Australians and Canadians are a bunch of fucking yobs who burst into frenzied violence at the first whiff of alcohol. You won't see that in many Asian countries. But at least native Aussies can queue politely before puking in a ditch.
