Is this a show of support or actual support?

I feel like this is something that I already knew was true and that when he said he favored civil unions he was just playing politics, which is about par for the course.

Good. Civil rights are for everyone.

Let's hope vocalizing support for basic civil rights doesn't cost him the election.

As the Daily Show pointed out last night, this is the same position he had when he first ran for state senate some 15 years ago. It is funny how politicians' "evolving" thought processes can be so damned circular.

At last, a politician willing to take some risks in order to be honest and true.

"I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don't Ask Don't Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married."
Thank you, Mr. President!

Took him long enough.

2bucksplus Actually, I suspect the timing of this is calculated to gain him support among his irritated base.

As usual, CNN is missing the actual story to report breathlessly on Robin Roberts.
