I really have grown to dislike articles on these patent fights that don't talk to any experts, and just feature tech reporters speculating, especially on IP law cases. I mean the writer says stuff like "Google seems to have its sights set on Apple destruction" - which seems like a bit of hyperbole.

More background here, but this is just one part of a large patent battle among all the players in the mobile phone industry, Moto already won a case against Apple, Apple has counter-sued, etc.

I wonder if Apple will countersue Motorola for "pretty much everything they've done since the iPhone was introduced."

So much for Google or Googorola or whatever being all against the idea of patents.

A bit? "Google almost certainly desires a wider cross-licencing deal" would be a lot closer to the truth.

I was listening to a story on NPR the other day about how Apple is not going after Google, but going after manufacturers instead (one theory given was that Google makes no revenue on Android, but handset makers do). If Google is indeed going to go down this road, I'm guessing Apple's gonna drop the gloves. Whatever the case, this is going to be a long time before anything is settled.

Apple's strength comes in large part from its overseas manufacturing operations, as well as shipping and delivery management. Were Google to get such an injunction, Apple would see one of its greatest strengths become its Achilles heel. I highly doubt Google will get such a ruling, though.

This isn't even actual news filter, since nobody can read the court filings or any commentary about actual documents until Monday. We're sort of in "Patent lawsuits. Boy, I don't know" territory here.

I sympathise with Google's stance here, but the whole anti-patent thing hasn't been all that defensible since the Motorola Mobility purchase resulted in a valuation of $5.5bn on those patents.

That said, Apple's been suing every major Android OEM over anything they can get into court (including MM), so it's not entirely surprising that G/MM are throwing the kitchen sink at them as a warning that the damage will not only go one way if some kind of detente isn't reached. This was pretty much the whole point of the MM purchase, so it's not exactly surprising.

Again, they're almost certainly looking for the kind of cross licensing deal that takes place in pretty much every other industry patent pool.

Apple is not going after Google

The attempt to get the Galaxy Nexus banned from importation was awfully close, no?
