Carl Levin Will Not Run Again

Senator Carl Levin (D-Michigan), chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, will not run for a seventh term in 2014.

Levin, who has faced only token Republican resistance since the mid-'80s, is 78 years old; speculation has run high for some time that he would not run again, and today's announcement will likely touch off intense jockeying for both the Democratic and Republican nominations.

Levin says that he wants to focus on his work in the Senate for the remainder of his term, rather than having to campaign again.

This post was deleted for the following reason: I'm not sure why this is a big deal to folks outside of Levin's region. If this is a bigger deal, please feel free to make a post about it tomorrow and explain more. -- jessamyn
