The “wildland-urban interface” are areas where communities have sprouted in what were once remote, forested areas. These areas are also prone to wildfires, and the developments that sell the pull of the wild to adventurous families may also be behind the 19 that died in Arizona.

There is certainly an argument that providing protection to this kind of development costs too many public dollars and public servants.
