The USDA is Lifting a Ban on Importation of Chicken from China On August 9, 2013 a news report on antibiotics in agriculture determined that, in Europe alone, antibiotic use in meat production led to 1518 excess deaths annually and 67,236 additional days in the hospital. Shortly after this announcement, the USDA has lifted a ban on importation of chicken from China. Are these 2 events related? Cephalosporin use was recently restricted in agriculture. Now that penicillin derivatives could soon be banned, are officials at the USDA playing politics with American health to duck regulations?
