Robin Williams (1951-2014)

Robin Williams was found dead in his home this morning. The cause was suspected to be, but not confirmed as, suicide due to asphyxia. He was 63.
This post was deleted for the following reason: Really and truly, I know folks are shocked but the man did decades of work. Let's try and get a post up about more than the fact of his death. -- cortex

Hard to believe that a guy who made so many people so happy, could be so sad.

Mork and Mindy was my favorite show for a while as a kid. And I once walked past him in a restaurant I used to work at back in the mid 90s.

Man oh man...
I can't say I liked everything he did, but at times he was a force of nature, and could be absolutely great.
I will miss him
Depression takes so many.

Jesus. Mork and Mindy was one of my earliest MUST WATCH tv shows when I was a kid.
I even had the rainbow suspenders that I wore everywhere.
Damn shame.

Damn. I doubt anybody likes every single thing he ever did, but I would be surprised if everybody didn't like at least one thing he did. Great actor, great comedian.

"To quote from Whitman, 'O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless... of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?' Answer. That you are here - that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play *goes on* and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?" - Robin Williams as John Keating, Dead Poets Society
Robin Williams, you had a hell of a verse. It's a shame it couldn't have been a little longer.

"Robin Williams passed away this morning," his media representative Mara Buxbaum told CNN. "He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time."
Heartbreaking.

When I was a kid my dad had Robin's excellent "Reality... What a Concept" comedy album. An indelible part of my youth was playing the record every time I visited my dad over the years and gradually understanding more and more of it as I grew up.

This might be the first celebrity who I grew up admiring who has died. I can't actually process that this is real. I don't have a dot powerful enough to express my sadness.

What a tragedy. When are we going to collectively wake up and realize how much of a crisis mental healthcare is in North America?
No moment of silence for him; I don't think he'd want that, personally.
Oh captain, my captain, indeed.
