A lucid presentation of what it actually means to be under occupation.

This presentation (slyt), by a Jewish American, is a very lucid account of the actual system of occupation. If you don't have the patience to watch the whole thing, watch the first 15 minutes. If anything, it's a fantastic example of presenting information with clarity.

In responsibly forming moral judgments about any situation, a deep appreciation of the circumstances are often necessary. This video is a humble and patient presentation that details many facets of everyday palestinian life that is virtually missing from mainstream awareness. Many of these details would horrify the casual observer, and indeed do horrify many israelis. Importantly, the nature of the situation should evoke outrage and sympathy regardless of the historical and political context surrounding it.

With the help of photographs, this video outlines:

*The nature of checkpoints - their geographical dispersion and the paralyzing effect they have on the entire west bank.

*The dynamics of settlement building, and the devastating socioeconomic and psychological consequences to the native population.

*The wall: the path the wall takes across the region, its physical structure, and its effects on palestinian life.

*Forms of non violent resistance that have been going on for decades in palestine, yet are rarely brought to attention in mainstream discourse.

*Stone throwing and the arrest and administrative abuse of palestinian children.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Hey, sorry, but Israel/Palestine posts *really* don't go well here (and a single link video with OP editorial framing is not great in any case), so we pretty much limit I/P stuff to major, major developments. -- taz
