Habtom Zerhom, 29, was shot by an Israeli security guard and beaten by a mob, who presumed that he was responsible for a deadly attack at the Beersheva bus station.
Asylum seekers in Israel have begun to mourn Habtom Zarhom, 29, an Eritrean asylum seeker in Israel shot by an Israeli security guard and beaten and spit on by bystanders who mistook him for an attacker in a deadly bus station shooting. He died of his wounds yesterday.
There are at least 34,000 Eritrean asylum seekers living in Israel. They make up half of the over 60,000 Africans seeking asylum in Israel.

This post was deleted for the following reason: This is a terrible thing that happened, but I feel like there's both a "police shot an innocent person" thing and a "what's going on with Eritrean asylum seekers in Israel" thing and joining 'em together in one post is kind of setting up a mess where a post just about one or the other (and the latter is probably a much better idea as far as that goes) would be a lot more workable. -- cortex
