How to Spot a Brocialist: they dress in Scandinavian street style, cycle and avoid both eating meat and becoming hardcore vegans, listen to sensitive, tasteful indie-folk and support righteous causes, but this right-on exterior is sometimes just camouflage hiding creepy, predatory misogyny.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Heya, sorry, it seems like this is basically revisiting an often-fighty set of tropes we've discussed pretty extensively in recent years; I'm not sure this essays adds a lot more. -- LobsterMitten

Is this typologisation of human beings helpful? Or exclusionary, even if hidden behind words like "sometimes".

On one hand, it's a predatory camouflage that's as old as time. There were stories of sex-creeps professing their love of Lilith Fair artists in the 1990s, and there are songs documenting the phenomenon (Lush's Ladykillers, for one); the sensitive-hipster guise is just a modernised version.

OTOH, *looks at his bike, Sandqvist backpack and drawer full of Weekday jeans* *cringes* Thanks a lot for ruining these things, brocialists.
