'Virtue Signaling' Gone Awry

Author Who Insists He Has Never Heard of Hillary Clinton or the 2016 Election is a clever exposition of a rhetorical question for which one may have no answer. Is memory of those ideals on which western civilization --the republic!-- is founded in ruins? One of the more amusing, contemporary units that the author offers to measure "kindness, perseverance, truth, and decency" (in a literary setting) every leader must personify is le citoyen sans scrupules Ta-Nehisi Coates.

>Writing about the decline of American labor solidarity, Clinton writes that “being part of a union is an important part of someone’s personal identity. It helps shape the way you view the world and think about politics. When that’s gone, it means a lot of people stop identifying primarily as workers—and voting accordingly—and start identifying and voting as white, male, rural, or all of the above.” This account of class-consciousness puts Clinton to the left of even celebrated American essayist Ta-Nehisi Coates. How could anyone be naïve enough to believe that her victory was guaranteed?

This post was deleted for the following reason: Between the big thread we had about Clinton's book and the recent still-busy thread about Brazile's upcoming one we don't really need another one right now. -- cortex
