Drag Race is remarkable to me for demonstrating (particularly in the early seasons) that it is seemingly possible to be completely embedded in a commercialized context and yet have moments of genuine solidarity and empathy and feelings.

Ru Paul:
-uses the t slur and defends its use
-uses the s slur and defends its use
-says the only difference between "drag" and "transgender" is "$25k and a good surgeon"
-Gets called out by people working with him; blocks them

Gay community:
-wow RuPaul is so wonderful
