"I ate like a fashion editor for a day, and how do you even do this shit" chronicles Deadspin writer Tom Ley's attempt to consume former Elle editor Anne Slowey's mostly wine-and-water diet during Free Pizza Day at the office.

Reminds me of the ‘70 wine and eggs diet that has been going around Twitter. I guess you could swing it if you had nothing to do all day but fit into clothes and judge people, which was a large part of Helen Gurley Brown’s job.
Sometimes I feel bad about all the times when I was a teen and called certain girls “airheads” or “ditzy.” No wonder they stared and said what? all the time. They weren’t fucking eating!

Helen Gurley Brown was the editor of a very successful magazine. The April 1972 issue presented Burt Reynolds, naked on a bearskin rug. That issue sold 1.55 million copies. From 1965 to 1972, Helen doubled the magazine’s circulation and advertising revenue. Any9ne who thinks all she did was “fit into clothes and judge people” is clueless.

It was a joke. I’m well aware that Brown was an extremely accomplished woman. She was also thoroughly focused on image to the degree that her feminism has been a matter of fierce debate, not relevant here.
