Ok, there is me frenchsplaining to the enligthened masses of MF (against my better judgement and because it annoys the heck out of me) : the "d" in gourmand is silent...

Elwood: It's 8 hours til the alarm goes off, we've got a full can of spam, half a pack of tortillas, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

Jake: Fry it.

Okay, now do that without waking the dog.

Because the dog gets his 10% or else the barking starts.

If you’re going to cook something in the middle of the night, the secret to truly enjoying it is to fall asleep before you eat it.

I have eaten a lot of food sitting at the kitchen table in the middle of the night with the lights out and my eyes closed over a single flickering ember of consciousness, and in that state flavors are multiple times more intense. I am not kidding about this. The only real drawback is the danger of falling fully asleep before swallowing that final bite.

The 'gourmand' thing is interesting. I’d argue that it’s fully naturalized like 'claret' and the 'd' should be sounded, if weren’t for the inconvenient fact that the pronunciation of 'gourmet', its partner in the sixth deadly, remains so obdurately French.

I let out a gasp of delight & fear when he mentioned kimchi jjigae.
Reader, it did pizza and now I really want to try it.

The lazy ingenuity of the late night kitchen prowler is something that I feel like he only truly approached with pizza section of this video. Ain't nobody waiting on a rice cooker and veggies 'n' dip is too basic. Peanut butter is quite the omission from this video as well, but perhaps BDG can't eat peanuts and thus does not know the myriad ways it can be used.

This is very interesting stuff and I will try all of it. Any friend of Spam, kimchi, rice, and eggs is a friend of mine.

Recently, black beans with hot sauce, nutritional yeast, and a generous sprinkling of that sweet/salty crushed nut topping you’re supposed to put on ice cream - and god help me, it was tasty.

I saw a red fox run across the moonlit lawn while I was waiting for the microwave, too.

Holy crap, the TryToEat channel that he mentions toward the end of the video is a *gold mine*.

> Ain't nobody waiting on a rice cooker

The assumption is probably that you made rice earlier and had leftovers. And making rice without any leftovers is a mistake.

The "d" in "gourmand" isn't silent in English, the language that he's speaking. He's using the English word, not the French one. It's been borrowed. You're trying to "correct" someone for using what is the standard pronunciation in their language.

Words often change pronunciation when they're borrowed. It might annoy you, but it's not incorrect; it's just the way language works.

Anyway, that was just me linguistsplaining.

The shirt BDG is wearing has filled me with questions that cannot be answered, or asked.
