The technical discussion is pretty amazing. (It reads well in google translate from Russian to English.) Apparently they made their own codec to deliver animation in sync across many tiles. It's a 5-second loop.

A few more things:

- If you get the character ID thing to work (a right click that seems dependent on zoom level not being too deep) you'll notice a little "maximize" icon to the right of the text. Clicking on this opens another tab with a relevant video clip from YT.

- MIA (and to me oddly missing) are Rick & Morty and Invader Zim, both of which seem like they'd have fit in perfectly.

- There are definitely a few 'easter eggs' for some of the character IDs, including audio.

- Oh, and the sex stuff, when it appears, seems a little tone deaf to me. A bit too hetero-normative and 'leering.' But maybe that's just me.

It's fun to hunt for movie and videogame references. Some of them are somewhat obscure (Darling in the Franx?).

(And Wolverine making out with princess Leia. What?)

This is fun, but it's diminished by some questionable attempts at humor, like Dipper from Gravity Falls attempting to grope Wendy while she's sleeping. And although I've never played Overwatch, I hope D.Va crying while getting repeatedly caned for destroying a wall is not an exact reference. Ditto the Pink Floyd caning scene. And the Duke Nukem 3d reference is pretty disturbing.

Those hints of edge lord-ness kind of spoil the whole artwork.

I agree. This is really neat, but the disturbing and questionable content sours the whole thing.
