Laissez Faire Blogonomics?

Blog: "[n] public online chronological list of links to web sites and topics, with personal observations." Is that a good definition? If so, then why is Blogger listed on Blogshares? Isn't that like, say, comparing your and my annual lumber buys to Home Depot's? How does that help us to "explore the emerging social network"?
