ATTENTION MICHAEL MOORE! "guerrilla drive-ins" and the RNC dance mobs ATTENTION MICHAEL MOORE! REPORT FOR DUTY! Combine "guerrilla drive-ins" with the Barlow dance mobs (last post). No, not on the street where folks can observe with the naked eye, but away from the action, way away maybe, facilitated by sneaky little cameraphones and/or videocams blogging the dancers to the web. Imagine also Fahrenheit projected onto structures where casual passers-by or people stuck in traffic will see and hear it.

Is a blog post I made "something you have created", as the Post a Link page warns against? If so, my bad, but I wanted to get this out there right away and neither the TextAd service or the mefi-projects list seems right or timely. I'm not selling a product or service with this post, but suggesting an idea.

Is incoherence suddenly in fashion? Because I cannot for the life of me figure out what the fuck you are babbling about.

Have a nice day.

"So, to that end, I propose the following: I want to organize a cadre of 20 to 50 of us. I want to dress us in suits and other plain pedestrian attire and salt us among the sidewalk multitudes in Republican-rich zones. At a predetermined moment, one of us will produce a boom-box and crank it up with something danceable. Suddenly, about a third of the people on the sidewalk, miscellaneously distributed in the general throng, will start dancing like crazy and continue to do so for about a minute. Then we will stop, melt back into the pedestrian flow, and go to another location to erupt there." - link

Apparently the concept is that if people start spontaneously dancing the Republican brain will simply be unable to cope and implode, or hug wales or save the Spotted owl or something.

The guerilla drive in concept is similarly quaint. The idea is to project F911 onto a wall someplace so that random passers by can watch the film.

It goes without saying that a similar action proposed to happen at the DNC would have been hailed as an attack or a sign of fear and weakness on the part of the Republicans... but when used against the RNC it will no doubt be seen as clever by some.

Wouldn't a letter to Moore have sufficed, or are you trying to wow us with your cleverness?

Or are you trying to say, in code, "all your crack are belong to us"?

I assume that in projecting 9/11 on buildings you would have 1. The building owner's permission 2. It would be a particularly smooth, white building 3. Maybe you mean some other "structure" that can be built while no one is looking. 4. I assume you're going to have sound with this, so you'll get the appropriate permits otherwise you'll be shitcanned in 15 minutes under time place and manner restrictions. 5. Moore's film has something important to say, I fail to see how anyone would benefit from being subjected to obnoxious and intrusive snippets.

Maybe you'd like to go back and think about this some more? I'll miss this comment, of mine, when your post is shitcanned.

I thought to actually *message* the viewers with - I hope you Google-ites get a good kick out of searches! - no quotes. [/endclip] Results? Do it, Me-Fi! The link is to the full post at Topica."

In looking at Mr. Wahzoo's other FPP, I must say that this one is actually coherent by comparison.

"Or are you trying to say, in code, "all your crack are belong to us"?"

Also, in this Metatalk thread Wahzoo says "I posted here [MetaTalk] out of concern to do the right thing. If I wanted to drive traffic I could have posted to MetaFILTER."

Aha, so you admit that posting a self link to the front page would be to drive traffic to your own site.

GUILTY!

Take him away.

Self-linking: do you guys mean to say that members with blogs don't post links here to them? If that's just not done, then take it off, Matt, and I'll never do it again. But I don't see the problem with it. If this is really the policy, then I expect this will be taken down, and I won't have to bother with answering to this issue with those who are so offended.

incoherence: maybe it would have more coherant if I'd posted my whole blog entry. Sorry if it didn't make sense without following the link.

quaint: OK, quaint. And you propose?

letter to Moore have sufficed: if you went to the link you'd see I did email him, but first, how many do you think he reads, and second, this really isn't just for MM, it's for any and all.

building owner's permission: go read the NYT article I linked.

That phrase expired on March 30th of this year. Usage of it coupled with a self-link means you get a Me-fi pile on!!! 100+ comments, all being mean to you. That's if mathowie doesn't get here in time.

From the link guidelines:

Posting a link to your homepage and asking for feedback is a bad post. Self-promotion isn't what this site is about. Self promotion can be "earned." If you consistently post thought-provoking comments or links on the site, people will click on your name to know you better. On the profile page, you can put your own URL and people can check that out.

How there can be any question about what this means, I don't know.

To be more constructive: You want to publicize your blog post? Find other related posts on other similar-in-scope blogs. Post comments there. Casually drop the link to your (blog|post) in there. Let people come through in a natural way.

"self-links" get more attention than the ubiquitous "double posts." Kazaa may sound like a Shaquille O'Neal movie, and it's just about as legal. No, we have some pancakes. Away from the cell phones, and the text-messaging generation who are sent here to WOP you. Imagine also gigantic syrup, twenty stories tall, pouring down on yo' ass cool like silk because we kept in the fridge to keep from going moldy. But, and this is a big butt, are we really caring enough? The DNC spoiled us. Maybe Michael Moore is made of butter.

There are 3 possibilities here:

1. You honestly do not understand the posting guidelines, and somehow are mystified by the rule against "self-linking".

2. You are purposefully sidestepping the rules and pleading faux ignorance later.

3. You are an unmitigated moron and asshole.

In the case of #1, I suggest an email to the site administrator Matt for explanation of the posting guidelines. Or if you are more comfortable, ask any of the regular front page contributors.

In the case of #2, fuck off.

In the case of #3, fuck off.

It is a unique approach however, claiming to misunderstand what "self linking" means while doing it multiple times. You do get points for creativity.

Double-posting is (usually) on accident. Self-linking is certainly purposeful. That's why you see the vitriol.

Have a nice day.

"The smart mob - upon a prearranged signal, will don jackboots, black button down shirts, and black paramilitary style caps. They will then proceed to goose step, in tightly rehearsed precise columns, back and forth on the street while chanting 'George W. Bush! George W. Bush. Sig HEIL! Sig HEIL!" . These protestors should have short hair and be cleanly shaven - overall close attention, by each and every protestor - for greatest impact - to upholding an impeccable level of attire, should be coupled with the highest behavioral standards of discipline and politeness.

Marchers will never, under any circumstances, either respond to or resort to taunts, name calling of any sort, threats, or any type of provocation. If threatened with arrest, marchers will retreat from the field as a unit while still marching and chanting or - if necessary - break into prearranged squads while maintaining full discipline, marching, and chanting.

If arrested, marchers will not resist authorities in any way and - during the arrest - will repeatedly assure police, in tones that are calm, polite, and firm, that "we have the highest possible respect for police authority and the authority of the state.

Other operatives will film the march for distribution of video clips through all possible media channels. meanwhile, a prearranged internet campaign several layers "deep" will add depth and credibility. The group will operate under an acronym which must be short, punchy, memorable and - about all - suggestive of a paramilitary group but also flexibly vague, such as "The Strategy and Tactics Advisory Group" (STAG).

The premade first-tier website will......"

There's much more to that little project concept, but I make it a point to never go past second base on the first date. Nobody respects you if you give it away for free.

I think what Wadzoo means is what is the difference between linking to his own boring blog and linking to another post somewhere in Metafilter.

Here is the difference. 1) No one links from one FPP to another FPP or another comment except as a reference when adding to a discussion with a new link that is itself not a self-link. 2) Linking within Metafilter is not a self-link. Linking to your own blog is.

Never mind, why am I even trying to explain this. Ynoxas already summed up the situation.

Grand Wahzoo: the stuff is good, but we're not allowed to post our own stuff here. You should have emailed one of us, or spread your link elsewhere on the chance it would have been seen by someone at another place, and then posted here by that person.
