Schieffer's statements raise questions about objectivity
on the eve of the third and final presidential debate - does this type of relationship between moderator and candidate concern anyone else?

This post was deleted for the following reason: not really big enough of a deal to merit a post, try waiting post debate maybe?

I saw him on The Daily Show and he seemed out of it, like he had no grasp of the issues or any factual basis for any of his beliefs. I chalked it up to his attempt at non-partisanship given his position as moderator, but now I wonder if perhaps it wasn't something else.

I'm more concerned that the other candidates aren't allowed to participate at all.

You know, it says something about how MeFi is going that when I saw the story I >KNEW< in advance that the guy must be pro-Bush, because no one on MeFi woudl cause a stink if he was pro-Kerry.

A story here about partisanship is a special kind of amusing.

Are you? I think it makes sense to only have a debate between candidates who actually have some semblance of support. In Canada we have four people participate in the debates but we still didn't allow the green party candidate to participate (to the chagrin of many) because the support was somewhere in the 3% range before the election. I think, however, that they garnered enough support to qualify for federal funding, so perhaps if they have 5% of something they should be allowed to participate. It's hard to say. You can't, however, just let anybody in on the debate or there'll be twenty people there.
