Is buddytown the next rival to myspace? Browsing through the list of current citizens reveals that my AIM buddy list has about 3x as many people on it. So why would one want to join another community that labels themselves "snobs" and is invite only?

Buddytown is the best thing since best things.

Um yeah, I'm sure its true because they have it on their home page. For me, the community site as destination is useless. Orkut, Friendster, whatever, they fail because the community is supposed to be the focus.

Flickr works for me because the focus isn't on community, its on photography. And the community has grown from that common theme, some say its grown beyond its utility but I keep seeing amazing photographs everyday amid the run of the mill stuff. And the groups are a constant amazement.

this site is fake. seems like an awfully small amount of users to be in the thousands. stupid attempt at a viral meme. thank you, come again.

Maybe you could have stopped to ask yourself that before posting this abomination. Does one require a green collar to join?

Very well put fenriq. It's amazing to me that new community sites like this keep constantly popping up all over the web amidst the fact they are totally pointless.

My guess is hoax, too, based mostly on the "deutschbags." No way anyone makes that mistake by accident.

It seems to be a satire of Orkut perhaps, which would explain the "heath-care portal" comment.

Guerilla : "It's amazing to me that new community sites like this keep constantly popping up all over the web amidst the fact they are totally pointless."

I dunno that sites like this are totally pointless (though this one may well be so). The site I used until my company firewall blocked it was pretty darn useful for coordinating things such as gaming nights, camping trips, fireworks viewings, and the like, as well as enabling folks who know eachother from real life but don't see eachother all that often to have conversations. No, those aren't unique, and could be done with an inordinate amount of CCed emails full of redundant and/or confusing quoting, or by me implementing my own wiki and giving invites to friends, or the like, but I'm not saying that what they allowed me to do was unique, just that it was far from pointless.

Wow

This is run by a guy I know
It's an experiment
it's he and his friends PERSONAL site at the moment
It's for his friends and their friends.
It's not a joke.
But it's also not serious.

somehow it got linked all over and people are making wild conjectures and assuming ridiculous things about it . . .

Welcome to the internet, cinderful. Here's your bucket. Share it with your homeboy.

Hey, when someone publically posts a bunch of stuff about being snobs or whatever, what effect were they hoping for? They're basically trolling for attention, no? And what does trolling get you? Buckets o' cock!

"I'll see you emo fags later!"
