Interestingly, the Gilligan Must Die website, discussed on Metafilter back in 2000, is down. Whether it's a result of this sad event or whether it's simply an abandoned site, I don't know. But let me be the first to say;

I wonder how many people actually die from the effects of chemo, or from possible mismanagement of chemo treatments? (on the part of the doctors/clinicians etc...) My Dad almost did.

Oh, phooey, I didn't see the first one either. I blame it on insomnia and a very heavy dose of MeFi over the last few days - my brain is focusing on all the Katrina links.

I've heard more than one doctor say, roughly, that the process of chemotherapy is essentially that of killing the tumour before you kill the patient.

I imagine someday in the future, people will look back on chemotherapy the way we look back on trepanning.
