According to the exit polls, Bush's support among blacks nationally inched up only slightly from 9 percent in 2000 to 11 percent in 2004. Bush went from 7 percent of the black vote in Florida in 2000 to 13 percent in 2004. In all-important Ohio, Bush's support among blacks rose from 10 percent to 16 percent... One Republican strategist predicts that the GOP share of the black vote will hit 30 percent within the next few election cycles.

Well songs like this suggest this ain't gonna happen. If the GOP gets any votes from the African American community in the next few election cycles, it will be due to voter fraud.

Kanye had the chance to say something significant and he blew it. It sure made a ripple and got people talking about it, but it just seemed like he skipped over a few stepping stones to get to that one...

I feel bad for Mike Myers... having to deal with following up that line!

Mike Myers didn't have to "deal" with anything. He had a motherfucking teleprompter, with canned bullshit.

The fact that Kanye wasn't reading the canned bullshit was something significant.

On the contrary, the people who actually watch these events aren't intellectuals that seek detailed and pragmatic opinions on tough topics. I'd be hard pressed to say that Meet The Press, for instance, is intellectual, but its audience is much more so than that of a telethon. Based on that, Kanye's remarks hit the mark perfectly and awakened some sleeping dittoheads, as well as youngsters.

Quite so, my good fellow! What a buffoon Mr. West proved himself to be, while the whole world was watching, nonetheless! My goodness, I have never heard such a shocking and malodorous political diatribe thrust into the midst of a wholesome and edifying television programme.

It can sure give the rest of us hope, seeing the great example of Mr. Myers, how he recovered from West's oafish remarks, and allowed the show to carry on in good form.

i happened to be flipping through channels at the moment, had no idea who kanye was at that time (i'm not a great listener of any contemporary music), but stopped to comment to the significant-other that mike myers was on tv - when the line came out. i consider myself supremely lucky to have caught it and believe it to be a true moment of television zen. all the planets had aligned and someone seemed to be speaking out to the universe. i've heard the song and think it's a real piece of art. it's getting regular play here.
