This post was deleted for the following reason: adorable, but a double

Iremeber seeing a can of 'Horsemeat Cocktail' catfood on the shelf of a supermarket sometime in the late 70's/early 80's. We put some in the cat's bowl. She wasn't havin' it. Call it what you want to.

Horsemeat: if it's good enough for the French, it's good enough for your dog.

This is great, jonson. And it reminds me of one of my favorite marketing disasters (at least I hope it was a marketing disaster), Sharables. Mmmm, fish rinds!

I wouldn't be so sure that our pets aren't eating similar stuff now. Pick up a can of pet food and notice how many vague terms like "meat" and "meat by-products" you can spot.

Tuna jerky ain't shit, maryh. My buddy Rob the Cop in Hawaii sent me some of this once. Nastiest shit I ever tasted. Just opening the bag made the whole room smell like low tide.

Good Lord, maryh! Someone actually marketed food as "eh, maybe this is for animals, maybe it's for humans, we let the customer decide?" Crazy.

By the way, jonmc "clam jerky" sounds like the punchline to a dirty joke, but I can't quite put it together.

Damn, jonmc... Is that a snack or a euphemism for some perverse, obscure sex act (a la the dirty sanchez)?

Well, that ad copy, "For dogs, cats and you!" was probably ill-advised. But isn't it kinda funny how we draw these distinctions: food for us, and food for our pets, when in fact we're all just animals, and the things we eat (meat, for example) are essentially the same.

And making jerky from fish really isn't any weirder than making it from beef. Salmon jerky, for instance, is delicious. You can get all sorts of dried fish snacks here in Japan, many of them are very tasty. Great with beer!

Nothing turns me on like a punchline lacking a joke, jonson--excuse me for a few minutes while I jerk my clammy.

...and in somewhat better taste, here's "cat food" and "dog food" at Cartoon Bank.

I like the Forty Niner- 49% horsemeat dog food. Well hell, if it's 49% horsemeat, who cares what the other 51% is?

Hey, lay off the fish jerky! I have a Hawaiian friend who gives me some from time to time and it is pretty good, if a little different.

Actually, I think that food's much better for our pets than what they're primarily served today.

I think it's pretty cool that some of them have "spice" as an ingredient. Not enough attention is paid to the pet palate these days.

This one even has onions! (Kind of a bad idea for cats, but at least they'll drop dead with a delicious taste in their mouth.)
