Sir, the earth is only 10,000 years old.

HOW OLD IS THE GRAND CANYON? PARK SERVICE WON’T SAY. Grand Canyon National Park is not permitted to give an official estimate of the geologic age of its principal feature, due to pressure from Bush administration appointees.

This country is officially going backwards. Previously discussed here, and here.

I thought they thought the earth was 6,000 years old?

Also, wow. Crazy creationist Christians cave to cockamamy cabinet's constraints.
Christ.

HOW OLD IS THE GRAND CANYON? PARK SERVICE WON’T SAY.

Except, say, on the front page of the Park Service's Grand Canyon website: "The more recent Kaibab limestone caprock, on the rims of the Grand Canyon, formed 270 million years ago. In contrast, the oldest rocks within the Inner Gorge at the bottom of Grand Canyon date to 1.84 billion years ago." And another page about the geology of the Canyon. And curricular materials for teachers to teach students about the geology and formation of the Canyon. Oh, and they have ranger programs designed specifically to teach visitors about Grand Canyon geology.

This is a controversy about one privately-authored book for sale in the Canyon gift shop. Perspective, people.

I thought it was official when evolution was banned and Creationism was being taught in schools..

I don't believe Bush did well in school..

Um, this has been pretty much refuted.

And here's a park ranger pulling it apart.

That's what I love about this earth, man. I get older, it stays the same age.
