This post was deleted for the following reason: SLYTSF - single link youtube suck fest

I have absolutely no idea what this is about, and skjønn has made no effort to put it into context. So all I see is a fairly disturbing personal video blog which should barely be allowed on YouTube, let alone on MeFi. Am I missing something here - is there some greater story? If so, please explain.

Teen angst, gripping stuff..

Could I have the five minutes of my life back please?

Could it be a yet another viral marketing ploy on youtube?

Youtube has made me somehow trust people online even less than I did before.

But this post has made me trust other MeFites even less than I did before.

I made it to 2:31. I demand reparations from Skjønn.

Vlogosphere? VLOGOSPHERE!? Google maps 37Signals with Flickr iPod!

Look, normally I don't beat up anyone, but especially not girls, but in your case I might be rather willing to make an exception. But probably not. Taunting you from afar will have to suffie.

Anyway, after viewing that I only have one question. Why does my mouth taste like butt?

Hmmph. I certainly hope that doorbell isn’t keeping private records of who enters and exits the store.

suffie. To suffer, whilst sufficing.

Well, I hope this young man felt better afterward. I certainly felt worse.

Flagged for banality. Actually, flagged for noise, but that's because there's no 'banality' option.

This is exactly how I picture metafilter.

Actually, stuff like this makes me really, really glad that there was no internet when I was a teenager, because I was just like this kid and I knew plenty more of the same, and if I had that video following me into adulthood, I think I'd be pretty messed up by it.

People tend to dismiss teenage angst, and most of it is pretty fatuous and shallow, but nonetheless when you're going through it it feels like you're completely at the mercy of your emotions. Which is embarrassing, on top of everything else, because you know you're supposed to cultivate an attitude of ironic detachment like all the adults, but you just can't manage it.

I still to this day get hung up on just the memory of some-or-other boneheaded stunt I pulled when I was this lad's age, and acting or talking out of feelings I was having a hard time coming to grips with. If the actual video of those things were out there, I wonder if I'd ever leave the house.

Single-link post, no context? Youtube minefield? Head straight for the comments ... It's crap, skip it. Thanks fandango_matt, Nugget, LarryH et al commenters for taking the bullet!

I'm so excited--I've been lurking here forevah and have always seen people talking about flagging crap and now's my first chance to join the hate! But I don't see a flag button or link or little "bomb this user back to the Stone Age" image or anything. A little help so I can join the party?
posted by DU at 5:29 AM on February 15, 2007 [1 favorite]

Never mind, it's in the FAQ. But I really should have realized that the tiny non-link-colored exclamation point was the way to do it. It just screams "affordance!".

Remember DU, no flag is complete until you have reported in-thread that you have flagged, and how you have flagged.

Flagged as pick a reason.

Although there's no way I'm watching for the full five minutes, my immediate reaction was that this kid was doing a dramatic reading of the text of someone else's blog entry, in order to make fun of it.

Why did you post this?
posted by staggernation at 5:44 AM on February 15, 2007

I kept waiting for the punchline. I was quite annoyed when there wasn't one. Seriously this is why parents need to not let their kids run about unsupervised on the internet.
posted by MrBobaFett at 5:53 AM on February 15, 2007

Even though I knew it was going to suck, I still watched it. Damn it Metafilter.

I think it was the greatest thing ever. It was like getting hit in the crotch with a sledgehammer, or, if you're a girl, the face.

Flagged as "God Why?" and not in an amused way!
posted by Elim at 6:23 AM on February 15, 2007

I'm confused: for a boy, getting hit in the crotch with a sledgehammer is a bad thing but for a girl, getting hit in the crotch with a face is a good thing.

Wow, I watched 20 seconds, grimacing.

What happened to going to the beach at night or getting drunk with your friends? What happened to fucking the cheerleaders?

Do all 15 year olds lose themselves to the Internet?
posted by four panels at 6:28 AM on February 15, 2007

The subtext I got was that someone had been encouraging this kid to post merely to mock him.

That he feels betrayed is understandable, I felt for the kid.

Banal, no doubt, and we, in our never ending thirst for amusement, apparently have no time for empathy.

OK, since this has inexplicably not been deleted...

Do y'all really watch this and perceive that he's speaking extemporaneously, as opposed to acting? Watch it again. Really?

For the love of God, I hope this is fake. Like Richie said, video of myself like that at age 15 would be horrible to look at as an adult.

If this isn't fake, the kid needs therapy....bad. I hate this kid, I hate this post. Thanks for starting my day all creepy and weird!

On monday a 18 year old kid here in salt lake killed 5 people including the wife of a guy I know. Watching this made me feel that here is another kid that is isolated and becoming more and more hurt and angry because he puts himself out there on the internet to be picked on by anonymous jerks.
