They need lolcat-style captions bad.

Give me Sally Ride, any day.

Woof woof!

Nice photo stream, but alas, incomplete.

What collection of hotness from Star Trek could be without an Orion slave girl or two?

This one is from the best TOS episode.

Wow, Gene Rodenberry was prescient. He predicted ganguro fashion well before it became a reality.

That's pretty weak tea, my friend.

So somebody assembled photos of Star Trek chicks...some context would be nice to determine why this is any different from that Star Trek encyclopedia FPP (or the comment that linked to it or whatever it was) a couple of weeks ago...

Does this post have any redeeming value beyond "let's all look at hot ladies and make frat-boy-esque jokes"?

Yeah, didn't think so. Woo. Let's all objectify women. Fun.
posted by jacobian at 7:38 PM on December 18, 2007 [1 favorite]

It's a poor FPP, but jokes are what we got, jacobian. As for objectifying women, well, we objectify everyone. Every action you take is "objectifying" someone, because you consider them in relation to your own designs rather than theirs. It's inevitable and inescapable. (This is a fundamental part of existentialism, if you're interested in that.)

Needs more green chicks.

How about purple chicks.

The only thing more tiresome than a bunch of guys objectifying women?
Other guys getting sanctimonious about it.

There were a lot of controversial mythos change-ups when Star Trek: The Next Generation came out. How were we to believe the Federation had gone through a century of progress when the standard microskirt uniform was phased out? huh? I'm trying to keep my disbelief suspended here, people.

This may not be the best, but it is the quintessential Kirk Star Trek episode. "I bid 10 quatloos on the newcomers !"

Do you like your quasi-futuristic outfits?

When I was a kid watching original ST episodes, I always wondered what the hell was wrong with their camera everytime a woman was onscreen. Eventually I figured out it was deliberate, but that really didn't raise my opinion of it.

Droxine of Stratus and Yeoman Colt are not in the list. I protest.

If they were good enough for Kirk, they were good enough for you lot of bums, so stop complaining.

I was always all about the evil princess chicks, in particular the ones in Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon.

I thought the title of the post was pretty clear. The purpose of this post is to appreciate sexy women in space. I know this is Mefi and you simply must take every opportunity to share your deepest insecurities with the whole world but please don't project said insecurities on to me. Some of us just love sexy women in space.

How were we to believe the Federation had gone through a century of progress when the standard microskirt uniform was phased out?

Yeah this always pissed me off too. It's like women can't be serious soldiers/explorers/scientists in a microskirt. The "but I'm a boy!" getup in STNG was a huge step backwards and big copout!

Dr Who chicks are soooo much hotter.

Doubtful.

I just showed this to my boyfriend, who is way too excited about it.

I think I'm going to have to go find a '60s spacesuit/raygun/fishbowl helmet combo one of these days....

Gah. James T. Kirk's jilted space booty? No thanks! That man is space-kook flypaper. Co-dependent, anyone. It's not really their fault, though, is it? Kirk's just an abusive narcissistic fucktard, so it's mostly his fault.

Now, show me some NASA STS-certified hotties doing one-handed pushups whilst integrating differentials and contemplating the various ways to MacGuyver oxygen out of a turnip and I'm your melted puddle.
posted by loquacious at 8:22 PM on December 18, 2007

Okay, if we're opening the debate to hottest space girl overall, not just Star Trek, I submit the following --

Xev, from Lexx is hotter than all hotness in ten galaxies.

Except for Aeryn Sun, of Farscape.

Here! Hence my "actual astronaut" comment. But all the ladeeez were too busy complaining to notice.

Co-dependent, anyone. should read Co-dependent, anyone?

Can we please have a 60-second edit function or something like it?

(Also, I was hoping for actual NASA-porn. You think anybody's actually done it in space? Somebody must've by now.)

It's like women can't be serious soldiers/explorers/scientists in a microskirt.

It's kind of hard to fight/hike/research in one of those. Aeryn Sun didn't need a miniskirt!

Yes. The Russians. Supposedly.

And the quote I read was (paraphrase):

"Sex in space is simultaneously over and under-rated."
posted by tkchrist at 9:06 PM on December 18, 2007

Tehanu - but she was badass enough to have done it all in one if she had to.
posted by EatTheWeek at 9:10 PM on December 18, 2007

Next generation didn't entirely phase out the miniskirts. In fact, one of the early "walking the corridor" shots had a guy wearing one.

It always amazed me that in Star Trek, hairspray is universal... literally.
