Senior Denied Diploma for Blowing Family a kiss at Graduation

When called, one student walked on stage to receive his diploma and blew a kiss to his family. The school administrator, clearly not the sentimental sort, sent the student back to his seat ... without a diploma.

I suspect this is primarily a race/class based thing: don't let the proles take any joy in getting out of the school-factory.
When a relative recently graduated from a 15K/yr private school, no one complained when (some) families whooped or hit chimes for their kids.
School administrators need to unclench, remember that they're being paid with our tax dollars, and show a little more respect for students who make it to graduation.
(That said, I personally find excessive display uncouth, but acknowledge it's inevitabe at graduations.)

Oh crap, I didn't read the part where Fox News reported that the mother of the student is "outraged." I guess this is a big deal.

I would use this opportunity to recall my own high school graduation and how the behavior of my classmates compared and how silly this whole thing is... but I was tipsy during my graduation so I don't remember much. Not to mention that I'm old and clenched up now, so if I could go back in time -- like they do on Lost or in a Star Trek movie -- and become a school administrator I would probably have to expel myself. But whatever.

And as usual, the fact that he will be getting his diploma anyway was hidden near the bottom of the original News 8 article (took me way too many clicks to find that one) after plenty of, like, populist outrage, and the same fact seem to have been duly ignored by everyone else.
I will assume that Twitter won't talk about anything else the whole day.

One of my close friends turned 18 before graduation and had his middle name legally changed to "Danger." Motherfuckers wouldn't say it. We shouted it instead.
Also a fact: at my high school, we threw always tortillas along with mortarboards. Nobody's really sure why.

From the local paper: Lukas, who presided over the commencement inside the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, would not discuss specific students or disciplinary action. She said she simply enforced the rules that each student was expected to read and sign beforehand.
I guess this is as good a time as any for the kids to learn about contracts.

Cheering by family members I don't mind. Bowing and blowing kisses is understandable when you're marking the end of a years-long educational process. I don't even begrudge the occasional beachball making its way through the crowd.
What I did mind at my undergrad graduation was the idiots blowing motherfucking air horns forty feet behind me every five minutes. That shit should be punishable by public stocking and flogging.
