Doesn't the Senate still have to vote? (that's a honest question, I don't understand what's going on now with this)

The House has voted for and passed both the bill and a set of alterations to the bill. The bill itself will be signed into law. The Senate, however, now has to vote on that same set of alterations to the bill in order for them to be signed into law. These include some very important things that made it possible to pass the original bill in the first place. The House is taking it in good faith that the Senate will be able to pass these alterations but nobody knows for sure, so those members who voted yes because of the alterations made are just a little bit worried about it.

I told my husband, who is, at the moment, out of range of all tv/iphone/wifi/etc. that the bill had passed, and he said "Does this mean we can go to the doctor tomorrow?" Rhetorical, of course. Nevertheless, I am glad.

Congratulations, USA. That's two steps you've taken forward: electing Obama, and getting healthcare. You're back on the right path.

I think this belongs in the already-open thread.

Yeah, this should've gone in the already-open thread. It's good stuff, but we don't need another health care thread in less than two hours.

The other thread should be deleted in favor of this far superior one.

Either this should go in the other thread or (preferably) the older one should be closed in favor of this thread, which is better-constructed.

This is a better post, but deleting a thread with 170+ comments? Seems a tad unlikely.

This should go in the Antique Typewriters thread.*
