The Minerva Initiative and the relationship between the military and social sciences

The Minerva Initiative So, the idea of social sciences being involved in studying military affairs is nothing new, but the Minerva Initiative was exposed to a significant amount of negative press and funding was discontinued after 2008. Is this the militarization of social sciences or the road to more scientific (and potentially more humane) military action? I'm interested in seeing what people on this site think about the validity/ morality of this kind of research. Are the scientists who are involved in this type of work responsible for how their findings are used?
