Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails: "dedicated to the Gin Fizz, the Widow's Kiss, and the Singapore Sling, the drinks our mothers and grandmothers drank, and the drinks we strive to save from extinction as a small measure of remembering those great women and their great cocktail parties."

MAE WEST: Yolk of 1 egg, 1 tsp. Powdered Sugar, 1 Glass Brandy. Shake well and strain into a medium sized glass. Top with a dash of Cayenne Pepper. (From Hollywood Cocktails) November 2001, Sirens of the Silver Screen.

That's almost hideous enough to become my new favority penalty/dare drink.

To continue the 150 year American tradition of dangerous women calling themselves Ladies and getting together in groups, clubs, and societies to work undercover while they chipped away at the patriarchy.

I'll drink to that. Bless 'em!

Excellent link. May the LUPEC kill the cosmo and replace it with the old fashioned. Or just about anything else would be OK, too.

What a fabu link! :) I'd forgotten how much a miss a good Kir Royale...and the champagne julep looks like something I have to try once the baby is born. :)

Love it! These are women after my own heart. I mean come on, do people over the age of 16 really enjoy ordering orgasms and sex on the beach(s)? Those do not sound appetizing to me.

Sign me up!

For real men, there's the bullshot ... and for everyone else, try substituting the vodka in a Bloody Mary with dry sherry.

I like salty cocktails better than sweet ones.

Tranquileye how did you find these lovely ladies? We're lucky enough to have them here in Pittsburgh where they host events and review bars in the free weeklies.

We are, engelr?

Hmm, that might be enough to drive me to drink.

I do my part by making numerous sloe gin fizzes each and every summer. This year I'll go one better and dress up to drink them.

I love dames who aren't afraid to get piss drunk.

Gin! Gin for everyone!

What really pisses me off is people who order "Vodka Martinis".

If it doesn't have gin in it, it's ain't a Martini!

There will always be Singapore Slings.

In Singapore. What other reason does the Raffles Hotel have to overcharge at the Long Bar?
