What does it mean? The two sides are at it again. So I guess they will be declaring war agianst each other some time soon. Anyone really think these meetings will yield something that lasts more than say 48 hours?
actually they haven't been fighting for eons at all. More like 52 years.

". . . certain naïveté about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, in particular by people who were swept along by the apparent successes—handshakes on the White House lawn and so on—but who never really acknowledged the Palestinian understanding of the conflict. For them, it is a tragedy in which they are the victims of an enormous injustice, have been made to pay for Christian anti-Semitism toward European Jews, and have had their land taken from them by force."
-Jerome Segal. (From the Village Voice article by Alisa Solomon)
"Jaffa is a microcosm of Jewish/Arab coexistence in Israel—or what coexistence could be. There are other Israeli towns shared by Jews and Arabs, but in Jaffa we live on the same streets, baby-sit each other's children, drink coffee and swap recipes in each other's kitchens. I know all my neighbors for blocks around.
...
In the Jaffa poll, only 13 percent of the Jews said they hated their Arab neighbors. Of the Arabs, a tiny 4 percent declared hatred toward the Jews."
-Sylvana Foa
While we are at this topic once again, I should also include this telling illustration of the marked difference between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

Israel Refuses To Cooperate With UN Human Rights Inquiry
"Israel on Friday refused to cooperate with a United Nations inquiry into alleged human rights violations in the West Bank and Gaza after the U.N. Human Rights Commission condemned it over Israeli-Palestinian violence. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement rejecting a resolution passed Thursday by the commission, which set up the inquiry and blamed Israel "widespread, systematic and gross violation of human rights" during the violence that has raged since Sept. 28."
