It amazes me how many software developers out there don't know about XEmacs. It is the greatest dev tool ever!

So, uh...why should we know him?

It's Yul Brynner and his Volvo P1800?

Do I win anything?

i have used xemacs in the past. ben wing is not as involved as he once was (unless that has changed in the very recent past). other famous authors of xemacs include jwz. as an editor, xemacs is perhaps too programmable for my taste (it reads email, news, browses the web and allows one to chat over irc? bloat, bloat, overkill).

we had the mac vs. windows rehash a while back, can we have the vi vs. emacs fight now?

not unless you want to start, hob. i like neither vi nor emacs, but i don't really give a shit to begin with. use whatever you like.

Looks just like the guy from the Seinfeld episode when Elaine gives the guy in fatigues a promotion at the Peterman catalogue instead of firing him. *(in this pic)

Ain't that car picture Guerrero Street in SF? I once met Martin Buchholz, another XEmacs developer who worked in Tsukuba, presumably with Wing.

I don't know him, but I'm starting to get worried, after reading about Ben's chronic pain.

(chanting) V-I, V-I, V-I !!!!

It's hard to sing its praises considering, y'know, how fucked up it is, but you use what you know, and I never spent much time using emacs.

I hate how a simple Windows text editor becomes rocket-science after using vi for a while (I'm always sticking "i"s everywhere), but it is fast, once you know it.

Sorry for the derail. This XEmacs sounds cool.

If you like x?emacs but don't need all the features, you might try MicroEmacs.
It's what I use and what Linus uses.

pico rules. Who wants to start emacs to tap in a quick note or couple of lines? I wouldn't want to code in it though. Bleurgh.

Heh, I ran across this guy a couple years ago when I was typing random domain names in my browser.
