I think the point here, swift, is this, from the guidelines :

Just because it's part of MSN doesn't mean people have seen it before, it's not interesting, and it might not warrant discussion.

The preceding statement is at least 94.5% true--hence the stampede of comment after comment about what a witty post it is herein: it is not interesting and it does not warrant discussion...

My goodness, swift. Are you so insecure that you have to lash out like that when someone offers some constructive criticism? For my part, I was merely trying to soften and perhaps clarify y2karl's sarcasm a bit, and I get called a fuckwit?

Well, OK, I guess I am a fuckwit, on frequent occasions, but 'kneejerk, religious posturing'? Hardly. If a post is a pointless one that just adds to the noise, please forgive me if I don't pat you on the back and say 'well, maybe you'll do better next time, lil' fella'.

y2karl, today I call you a jerk. sarcasm sucks. yes the post is a bit lame, and maybe doesn't warrant much discussion, but your initial comment is completely non-constructive. at least stavros (annoyingly) points to the guidelines.

A huge collection of current political cartoons is an interesting resource that others may not have seen and might actually enjoy. You seem to think because it's inside slate, or inside msn, or maybe because it's inside the freaking INTERNET that it has something in common with yahoo or google. It does, in that people sometimes post stories from yahoo or some as yet unseen feature of google, but the cartoon site really stands on its own. If there wasn't a "slate" in the url or an msn logo in the corner, you probably wouldn't have said a word, and that's why this is a religious argument. My reaction to your snarkiness was, in itself, kneejerk, but the point is that there is nothing wrong with a post that involves a larger site.

I forgot it was at Slate--I'd seen it long ago, it was old old news, and in any case, I thought it pedestrian, common and hardly linkworthy: not unlike posting a link from, say, the archives of Cool Site Of The Day. Others differed. So it's a matter of taste.
