a view and warning from pakistan
[LA Times via Common Dreams]
"Your government's actions are breeding our homicidal bombers at such a fast rate that we cannot cope, what with the meager resources we have to counter the threat you pose to us. Your government proposes a course of action against Iraq and beyond that will lead only to one thing: the breeding of tens of thousands of baby Osamas who will be ever more desperate to tear you down, just as your leaders today seek to destroy the Iraqi regime and next, the one in North Korea or Iran or maybe one day in my country." will our children be more or less safe with this administrations course of action?

There's nothing about this editorial that hasn't been stated over and over and over and over in other editorials. It doesn't really offer any new insights or new information.

While it's interesting that it was written by someone who claims to have served alongside bin Laden, think of this: If someone who personally knew George W. Bush wrote an uninspired editorial saying that not going to war would create more George W. Bushes, would that be considered a worthy front-page post?

I'm not saying this because I'm against the sentiments of the editorial. I'd just like to see fewer mostly-repetitive editorials posted. Thanks.

Although, for the record, you ARE against the sentiments of the editorial. But I agree with you, enough on this topic.

True Muslims can never accept the supremacy of another human being's actions over them.

This is why religion sucks.

Actually, not really. I think that the "War will create baby bin Ladens" motif is a bit over the top, but in general I'd prefer that we not go to war. I don't think that "pre-emptive retaliation" makes sense, and it's a bad precedent to set.

christ. as an oversconsumer of media and metafilter daily...

i found this well written editorial by a member of the pakistani ISI - a worthwhile viewpoint worth sharing, if for no reason other than as warning from the islamic world..

"Some nation, or group of people, must put an end to this insane cycle of violence before the nuts on your side cause the nuts on our side to create a series of cataclysmic events."

amen.

on its own merits, it's not a bad link at all. i think we're all just tired of iraq stuff. conceivably, if such links hadn't been abused so consistently in the past, we'd be less sensitized to them by now.
