I saw a bunch of 17th century Japanese prints at the MFA in Boston about two years ago. It was a spectacular show... Maybe the prints were actually printed in more recent times from old plates, or maybe my memory is just faulty, but the colors in that show were a lot brighter than what we're seeing here. Could also have to do with preservation. nem tudom.
