In a report recently complied by Rep. Waxman (D-Calif) and the minority staff of the House Government Reform Committee's special investigations division areas in which the Bush administration has manipulated science to the benefit of his political agenda are highlighted. The why do you hate America bit stopped being amusing long ago, clever long before that.

sorry, xmutex. i was captured by a sudden and ineffible wave of intense cynicism, and the only response i could manage to move my fingers to make was a comment which, to my shocked mind, represented three seperate layers of pure jade: a general jadedness with the state of american discourse, a more specific jadedness with the living cliche that bush has become, and, finally, a jadedness with the cliches we use to reference said cliche. in such form, my comment was in fact ironic in its intrinsic unfunniness. i apologize for not being clearer.

This is a much bigger story than the post might suggest (Homunculus is on the trail):

It concerns a widespread Republican denial of mainstream science which verges very close to real psychosis. Global Warming is but the widest in this war of many fronts.

I was thinking of doing a post on this, along along similar as this post but covering the larger aspect of the story - I guess I'll give it 48 hours.

I sense what may be a fundamental misunderstanding here about what Metafilter is actually meant to be, but...carry on.
