Shame that there's no satellite view of the Cerne Abbas Giant, in Dorset - it'd be great to think that you can see that from orbit :-)

Well, here's Cerne Abbas, but I don't know where the Giant is.

Is this where the Iraqi WMD's are kept?

salmacis: Found him! Not a very good image, though... and certainly not enough for aliens to think that we're all dirty pervs, or something :-)

(BTW - I've never used Multimap before; it's great! Thanks for the link!)

It's still annoying that Google Maps doesn't provide a scale indicator. Until they do, Google Maps will be nothing more than a fun toy, and I'll stick with Yahoo Maps or Mapquest for maps that are actually useful. </peeve>

I hadn't followed this closely but I'm fascinated that early assumptions Google was 'shopping out airplanes in flight have been proven wrong.

Including this fascinating series. Zoom out and you'll see five shots of the same plane, as the satellite "followed" it in takeoff.

Intriguing find, dhartung. The airport and the freight line in the zoomed-out map are quite fascinating as well.
