China Gets Sexy

"The explosion of suggestive images [in Chinese media and art] is partly a reflection of changes in Chinese society -- many sociologists say China is in the midst of a sweeping sexual revolution -- and partly due to market reforms...The government has not given the press free rein to publish material with sexual themes, but the way censorship is carried out means that some media outlets can get away with quite a lot. Rather than issue top-down decrees, Beijing's censors primarily react to existing material, so websites, whose content is easily removable, and publications far from Beijing, which are less likely to attract censors' attention, can take more chances. Still, articles on topics such as 'China's Janet Jackson,' a TV star who has twice revealed a breast in public, and the incidence of erectile dysfunction among China's urban men are now common in the national media."
China probably needs to loosen up, but there is a negative side to everything.
For instance, a major conservative weblog was under persistent terrorist attack yesterday by some idiot who keep posting pornographic trackbacks to her site.
The weblog under attack has already been forced to close its comments section because of similar attacks.
Obviously, the terrorist who attacked this site hopes to also force it to cease accepting trackbacks.
If you read the comments in this site, you will see the same negative... kids who have convinced themselves that a bitter pornographic remark is the epitome of cleverness. Many comments threads on this site quickly deteriorate into this. It's pretty childish.
The "Dude, I'm so hip" ethos is pretty worn out. Boring.

... and these suggestive images would look like...????
Perhaps it's not really an explosion.

Sexual mores change over time. I wish people would accept that.

"Terrorist?" A comment-spammer is a terrorist? Damn. Now I support the war on terra. We're gonna hunt them down, smoke them out, and take away their text editors.

No kidding brother. What's this damn world coming to. Why, this morning I walked outside to get my Sunday paper, when what do you know but the terrorists had forked my lawn.
I've got my eyes peeled for the teepee terrorists. Those bastards don't know when to quit.

That reminds me a lot of '70s Spain. As in China now, the censure suddenly became suspiciously tolerant of smutty comedies that made Benny Hill look like a class act, and magazines with scantily clad beauties filled the newsstands. This was particularly curious in a regime once noted for its prudishness, but well, kept the increasingly unrestive youth away from revolutionary thoughts...

There was a similar uproar recently when dancer Tang Jiali published "Tang Jiali: Nude Photographs". (NSFW)
Thanks for the link. Found it fascinating. :)
