The Number 23 has a movie. It's been associated with everything from conspiracy theory to historical and scientific fact, and now the obsession of thousands of Discordians and worshippers of Eris (not to mention KLF fans) is the specific subject of a movie directed by Joel Schumacher and starring Jim Carrey. It comes out in February. I don't think I need to tell you which day.
And then Bob Wilson "died" and nobody even cared enough to FPP it here except for maybe, like, five people.
Shortly before this, Dr Pepper rolled out their new ad campaign emphasizing the "23 flavors" found in their product, with the people in the commercials seeing 23s all over the place. All the new cans have a big 23 right underneath the logo.
(I'm glad RAW was at least "alive" for that, and the Eris planet.)

Hm, I think the number 23 already has a movie. But it could always do with another one, even if Jim Carrey is involved.

As for the month: Its on the anniversary of the beginning of the Universe.
You can't get a cooler birthday than that.

Being born on the 17th, I've always been on the look out for occurrences of the number 17, and have concluded that it was sort of an anti-23 in that it rarely seems to show up in great disasters and events, and is sort of an unremarkable prime number. Robert Anton Wilson even noted a connection between the numbers 17 and 23 as the "23/17 phenomenon". Although when I try to explain to people "Do you notice how many major events in the world don't involve the number 17?" they express disinterest.

Yes, but if you reverse 42 into 24, which is the year of my birth added up and subtract one, you get 23. This dovetails nicely with everything else. Oh, and everything you've ever been told about the way the universe works is wrong (thankfully).

My theory on this is that people tend to find primes more interesting than non-primes, and 23 and 17 are the first examples of primes that don't necessarily show up in one's everyday life. (Or rather, they seem as if there's no reason for them to. Of course they do, and that's the point of apophenia.) Thus, they take on a rather mystical quality.
This prime/nonprime thing is a longstanding conjecture of mine, that I often find validated, because I am looking for it to be (in the spirit of obsession with nonsensical ideas). However, it always seems like, for instance, something is funnier and/or more interesting if you insert a prime number rather than a non-prime. That is, "17 hojillion" is a lot more impressive than "10 hojillion".

The scariest was The Cable Guy. Bloody scary indeed.
Bring back the Fire Marshall Jim.
Too reminiscent of the movie 7.
As for those obsessed with numbers... I knew a few people who became increasingly obsessed with numbers. One went right off the deep end. Right off. The other was already there.
You can believe whatever you want to, I suppose. Grab anything and string it into something.

I third the motion 420.
Now that's a fact.
so there.

Any single digit is easy to find everywhere. When you get to two digits the frequency, obviously, drops off sharply. Yet if you watch for 23, you will see it much more often than any other 2-digit number.
Don't believe me? Take note of every 23 for five days, absolutely every single one you notice. Write them down in a notebook, or just in hatchmarks on the back of your hand. Then pick another 2-digit number and try it again. Then come back to this thread and report your results.
