Legal tender? We don't accept that in these parts...

Arrested for paying a bill with money? The two dollar bill seems to be a mystical wonder over in the United States. Despite an FAQ entry on the U.S. Treasury Department's website acknowledging that it both exists and is still in circulation, it seems that some people still refuse to acknowledge this bill as real.

I better plan more carefully. I have been collecting $2 bills since I was about 8 years old, delightedly receiving them from my grandparents on every even numbered birthday (in sequential serial number order I'm sure, straight from their bank) and have been just waiting for the day I could spring a ton of them on an unsuspecting cashier. That's unfortunate.

Commenting on the incident, Baltimore County police spokesman Bill Toohey told the Sun: "It's a sign that we're all a little nervous in the post-9/11 world."

WTF?

The shit you get from paying with a $2 bill probably stems from the fact that you are a huge fucking nerd paying for something with a $2 bill.

Glad to see people noticed this the first time around:

as the clincher, that was really what made me gag.

This is my favorite $2 bill story. Old, but funny.

oops, too slow. Good call, dilettante!

I particularly like how people in bumfuck nowhere seem to think that a terrorist cell is targeting their retail bigbox stores.

basicchannel, I think you are just jealous that no one has ever bestowed such a fabulous gift on you.

Actually, yeah. That was the joke. $2 bills are freakin' sweet!

(I am a huge fucking nerd)

I know people who were in the WTC when the planes hit, and they're not a tenth as paranoid as the power-grubbing little assholes that infest every backwater shithole in America these days.

Funny this should come up. Just this weekend, a friend got an uncut sheet of $2s. (Legal tender, if you cut them, but usually sold to collectors for framing). He also got a pair of scissors. He says he plans to cut them one by one as he uses them...
